Important things to know about bin hire

Local Bins requires approximately 2.6m width to get down your driveway.

Green Waste must not mixed or contaminated with any other waste materials. Inert waste (bricks, rubble or concrete) or clean fill cannot be placed into general rubbish bins.

Our general rubbish bins have an excess weight charge of $6.00 per 100kg that we have to pass on should the bins go over weight they are as follows:

Maximum Weight Allowance
3.0m³ -  max  900 kg

4.5m³ -  max  1500 kg

6.0m³ -  max  3000 kg

10.0m³ -  max  3000 kg – no inert waste allowed

12.0m³-  max  3000 kg – no inert waste allowed

25.0m³ -  max  4000 kg – no inert waste allowed

There are no excess weight charges on hard fill or clean fill skip bins unless the bin has been overfilled.

General rubbish
3.0m³, 4.5m³, 6.0m³, 10.0m³ & 12.0m³, 25.0m³ bins.

We have 3.0m³ and & 6.0m³ skips for clean fill eg sand, soil and clay. See further info.

We have 3.0m³, and 6.0m³  skips for inert wastes like concrete, bricks, stone, tiles, gravel, rocks, sand & bitumen) This material needs to be kept separate from the main waste stream so that it can be recycled into new road base materials. See further info.

1. If you have any problems with your skip bin whatsoever, always contact us on 9751 3621 (Mon-Fri 0830-1730) or email us. Problems at weekends are more difficult to resolve than during the week due to staffing levels throughout the region, so please bear this in mind, we do however answer the phone i f you do call during the weekend.

2. Because skip hire involves heavy haulage, it is not always possible to give you an exact time for delivery, and also bear this in mind if you are planning on taking a day off work (i.e. don't make the bin arrival time central to your plans for the day). We are very flexible and will always try our b est to fit in with your plans.

3. Skip bins must NOT be overloaded. Not only can this prove a problem in picking up the skip, it also poses a hazard to motorists and pedestrians, and is highly illegal. The correct way of loading is for the waste inside not to exceed the top of the walls of the skip, particularly if the waste is predominately brick and rubble. For health and safety reasons, Local Bins reserve the right to “level” the waste when picking up the skip if it is deemed unsuitable for transport. The best rule of thumb to follow is to ask yourself “is it really safe enough to travel with? Would I travel with this overloaded bin?” Fines are expensive and we wouldn't want to have to give you the bill!

As we cover every load that we carry, we need to make sure that there are no sharp objects that protrude out of the bin as this can cause damage to and/or injury to the operator and the bin covers (which aren't cheap - the tarps are expensive too!)

4. Local Bins does not accept the following items in our bins:

Certain types of wastes are hazardous, and are not allowed in a general waste skip bins. Additional charges WILL apply if these item types are found in a skip or bulk bin.

Such waste includes:-

  • Asbestos
  • Fridges, Freezers and Air-conditioning units
  • Tyres
  • Electrical appliances
  • Batteries
  • Fluorescent light tubes
  • Paints (including residues inside paint cans)
  • Solvents
  • Aerosols and gas cannisters
  • Liquids
  • Oil, fuel and other automotive fluids
  • Medical waste
  • Other hazardous / toxic waste

If you have any of these waste streams to dispose, you can contact our skip hire team for further information on how we can handle your hazardous waste disposal needs.

See further info.

Please feel free to look at the list of items that we do collect (remember that some of these items attract extra charges and this will of course be added to your bill upon inspection and pick up of your bin.) As some of these items are heading in the direction of being regulated by the Australian Government, we will all need to be watchful to do "the right thing" and be responsible for as much of our personal waste streams as possible.

5. Asbestos must be wrapped in builders plastic and placed in special bins on pallets as per local government regulations. Call for details and remember to check with your local Shire or Council for regulations on domestic handling of Asbestos. Also you can refer to our asbetos page here.

6. Under no circumstances should a fire be started in a skip bin - you will be charged for refurbishing or replacing the damaged bin or equipment.

7. Bins must not be moved or shifted from the delivery position on site by the customer.

8. Please ensure that the agreed position for bins is clear of any obstruction and free and clear at 1 end of the bin. Do not stack anything against the bins as we will not be responsible for damage caused to any property adjacent to our equipment at time of delivery and collection.

9. You are responsible for the waste you dispose of! You are legally responsible for the contents of the skip you hire. You need to ensure that the waste disposed in the hired skip is suitable for general disposal and that the skip is not overloaded. If you are sharing a skip with a neighbour, you will also need to ensure that their waste is suitable.
