Frequently Asked Questions

How high can I load the bin?
You can only fill to the top level of the bin any higher is unsafe to transport and we would more than likely have to off load to the top of bin (see also Things to know about your bin hire)

What is a cubic metre?
A cubic metre is a standard unit of measurement. One cubic metre is the amount that would be held in a cube that is one metre wide by one metre high by one metre deep. See the diagram below.

Can I mix concrete, bricks or soil with my rubbish?
No, we insist on recycling this type of material that is why we recommend that you use a separate bin and depending on how much volume you have we can advise the most suitable option for you. See also Waste Types for more information.

How long can I have my bin for?
Bins are available for hire for 3 days but can be left longer or picked up earlier by arrangement only. Fees may apply.

Do I need to be at home when the bin is delivered?
Only for the purpose of making payment to the driver, unless you have already made an arrangement with our booking staff.  Also, if you have any special requests for bin placement i.e. access to rear gardens or locked gates (barking dogs) etc, Just let us know when you make your booking, and we'll call in advance to let you know when we're arriving.

Generally we don’t need to bother you and our professional drivers take every care to expedite their jobs to perfection.

How wide does my driveway have to be?
We need a t least 2.8 metres in width to get our trucks down with no tight bends. Just ask when you book your bin.

Can I move the bin?
No, if you move an empty bin from where the truck places it and then you fill the bin then you won't be able to relocate the bin when it's full because of the weight and then the truck won't be able to pick the bin up in most instances. Any damages from moving the bin will be paid by the hirer.

What methods of payments do you take?
Local bins graciously accepts payments by many methods - Cash, cheque, EFT or credit card over the phone at time of booking. Receipts can also be left if requested or emailed or faxed. You can even drop into our office and say hello while you make payments.

How much notice do I need to give you when booking a bin?
Depending on when we receive your order, we can usually get the bin to you with in a couple of hours if it is urgent or else on the same day of ordering or else whatever is convenient.

Do we pay on delivery or pick up?
All payments should be paid on or prior to delivery unless other arrangements have been made.

Do we have weight limits on our rubbish bins?
Yes we do. To see these, click here
